I haven't seen anything in the news media as yet, but a Navy wife who works in the building says her husband's ship is set to sortie tomorrow in order to reach a point out of harm's way as Hurricane Irene moves up the Atlantic coast. She also noted that some ships may sail before that.
Obviously, it's never a good sign when the fleet heads to see for a safer locale while the rest of us (including the Navy families) remain to ride out whatever the weather may throw at us. I'll post more as I learn more details. The boyfriend isn't freaking out yet, but if this storm keeps moving towards us, we'll like start getting in full hurricane preparation mode tomorrow evening or Friday morning. Our big worry is the storm surge issue. Here's highlights from the latest from the Weather Channel:
Hurricane Irene strengthened Tuesday night into Wednesday morning and has now reached Category 3 status, making Irene the first major hurricane of the 2011 season.Since Hampton Roads' southern boundary is the North Carolina line, that means Hampton Roads may be in the main impact area.
For North Carolina, odds are increasing that the main impact will be confined to the Outer Banks and elsewhere in extreme eastern NC
