Commenters Eviscerate The Family Foundation "Talking Points" On Marriage

As noted in prior posts, the religious extremists at The Family Foundation ("TFF") are most unhappy that their anti-gay Marshall-Newman Amendment has been struck down.  In addition to making insulting remarks about Judge Arenda L. Wright Allen - who is black, and therefore not a "real American" or credible jurist to the Kool-Aid drinkers at TFF circles - Victoria Cobb and her minions  are encouraging their cretinous followers to launch a letter writing campaign to give the appearance that a majority of Virginians support TFF's religious based bigotry.  The hate group even has set out "talking points" for its ignorant followers to use on its blog.  Amazingly, some of the comments are great (and haven't been deleted as yet) and eviscerate the bull shit that is the norm for TFF.  My favorite comments are these:

JIM SMITH: Don’t bother.
* One federal judge should not disenfranchise the votes of more than one million Virginians. – Actually, that is precisely the role of the judge in our democracy – to ensure that the rights of minorities are protected from mob majorities.

*The state’s only primary interest in marriage has always been the well-being of children, not the love-lives of adults. – Wrong. Marriage is civil recognition of the relationship of two consenting adults who may or may not have children.

* Social science proves that children do best in a home with a mom and a dad. – Wrong. Research indicates that children of gay couples do as well or better as children of heterosexual couples.

* Judge Wright-Allen has politicized her decision by rushing it out the night before Valentine’s Day. – Fabulous!

* The decision by the judge on the issue of marriage is not based on any of the facts of the case, any of the evidence presented in hearings, or any of the truth surrounding the state’s interest in marriage. – Wrong. Read the case. The judge refuted all the junk science presented by the defendants and relied on the accepted conclusions of professional organizations.

* This decision will open the door for polygamy and other forms of “marriage” which will continue to degrade the God-ordained institution of marriage. – Marriage doesn’t belong to ‘god’ or any religion. It’s a civil matter.

* Freedom of religion and speech are already being threatened in states that have recognized same-sex “marriage.” Wrong. Religious freedom does not trump civil rights. Don’t like gay marriage? Don’t marry someone of your sex. Beyond that you’re overstepping.

* Attorney General Mark Herring took the unprecedented step of siding with the plaintiffs in this case against the Virginia Constitution he took an oath to uphold – which was precisely the right thing to do.

Face it. Gay marriage bans are falling like dominos nationwide as reasonable folks are coming around to the conclusion that unconstitutional discrimination is best left to history.

And another- M MIRABELLE:
The Family Foundation needs new legal council. No majority can vote away equal treatment and protection under the law. Same as no majority can vote away your right to own a gun or practice free speech or assemble or practice your faith.

It’s baffling why TFF keeps harping on this, mistakenly complaining that the judicial review process subverts the will of the people. When TFF misrepresents the legal process, what TFF is actually doing is dumbing-down their constituents, misinforming their supporters. TFF actually trains their supporters to be legally illiterate. Then their supporters go out into the public running their mouths about things they’ve been mis-taught by TFF and they wind up looking like buffoons, doing nothing to advance TFF policy ideas. In fact, the public buffoonery and ill-informed behavior of these folks is a big part of what drives the public to increasingly support gay marriage.

Come on, TFF! Start working on some coherent, cogent legal reasons why gay marriage should be banned, and start sharing these with your people. Calling the judge names and accusing her of using Valentines Day for political maneuvering is really grasping at straws. Really, really, really grasping at straws.

So is that all you’ve got?   . . . ..  what will TFF leadership say – that they took everybody’s donation money and produced a short-lived, fatally-flawed, illegal statute . . . . . ?
These comments will, of course go right  over the heads of the morons who slavishly listen to TFF for marching orders and likely get their news from Fox News, a/k/a Faux News, and pastors in pulpits trying to fleece them by telling that they will go to Hell if they do not tithe.  Far right religion is a real racket that seeks to allow folks like Victoria Cobb to live comfortably while disseminating hate and falsehoods.  These people feign piety but in truth they are nothing more than con-artists.  Would that the sheeple in the pews would figure this out.

The Bizarre, Mentally Ill World of the Haters at Family Research Council

A majority of American Catholics may be accepting modernity, modern knowledge on sexual orientation, and same sex marriage, but among conservative Christians Christofascists who give credence to the pronouncements of hate merchants at Family Research Council, a designated hate group, the batshitery just keeps on increasing.   Take FRC president Tony Perkins - he has KKK connections and I think he is a self-loathing closeted gay man given his hysteria on homosexuality - who is shrieking that gay marriage will lead to the collapse of America.   One has to wonder when FRC's followers will pull their heads out of the sand and realize that they are being fleeced for money by Perkins and his cohorts.  The New Civil Rights Movement looks at Perkins' insanity:
It must be hell being Tony PerkinsImagine if everywhere you turned you saw a conspiracy designed to end the world, people plotting the extinction of mankind, people trying to end civilization, reduce religion to rubble, spin the universe into a world filled with godless heathens whose only goal is the destruction of Christianity and mankind itself.

On Friday on his “Washington Watch” radio show, Perkins — the head of the anti-gay hate group Family Research Council — revealed what he believes is happening in the world today, and how events will play out.

Picture this.
Same-sex marriage advocates will advance marriage equality.
Homosexuality will be taught as something that is normal to school children.
Sex ed classes will teach kids how to have sex with people of the same gender.
School children will think being gay is cool and will want to try it out. (Perhaps like smoking, or joining the baseball team.)
Then, they will all, or mostly all, choose to be gay — since the stigma has been expunged.
Because so many children will turn gay, the birth rate will dramatically fall, the United States of America will be unable to keep up with the rest of the world, losing us our economic superpower status.
Here's a partial transcript of the lunacy:
Perkins: No, because what happens when you change and you say heterosexual marriage is the same as homosexual marriage, then you change the curriculum in your schools and you have kids, as a natural part of growing up and developing, they’re curious and they don’t know, and we’re exposing them to even more sexuality and overt sexual messages and we’re telling them, ‘hey experiment.’ And that is what leads, in many cases, to children going down a particular path, is early childhood sexual exposure, sometimes it’s traumatic. And by normalizing that and mainstreaming that, what you will do is you will have more children going down that path and that’s why they want to get this message into our schools.

Caller: I understand your argument but is there any data to support that?

Perkins: What do you mean any data to support it?

Caller: You are saying if you expose children to homosexuality you will have more homosexuals.

Perkins: Well if you sexualize a culture — I can tell you the data is very clear on what’s happened in the last 30 to 40 years where we have inundated young people, children, with sexual messages and they become sexually active. So when you take and mix into that homosexuality and other forms of sexuality into that, yes they are going to move down that path, they are going to engage in what you tell them about. That is why it’s problematic, that is why parents are upset about what is happening in Hawaii and other states that are teaching their kids how to engage in homosexual behavior, or heterosexual for that matter. I don’t want my kids that are 11, 12 and 13 years-old taught how to put on a condom or taught about how to engage in sexual behavior with someone who has HIV in a safe fashion. That is not what the schools should be about. They should be about teaching our kids to read, to write, to engage in science. How do we ever expect to compete globally when we’re fixated on teaching our kids about sex?
There is, of course, no data to back up Perkins' hysteria.  Perkins' root problem - beside be mentally ill in my view - is that he refuse to accept that sexual orientation is inborn.  No amount of exposure to gays is going to make heterosexuals turn gay.  Just as no amount of "ex-gay" therapy is going to make gays straight.  Accept modern knowledge on sexual orientation and the whole problem goes away.

Former 'Ex-Gay' Leader Repudiates 'Ex-Gay' Myth

Last year Exodus International, the largest "ex-gay" ministry closed its doors after years of working to perpetuate the myth that sexual orientation was a "choice" and that being gay or lesbian could be "cured."  Concurrent with Exodus' closure, it last president much belatedly admitted that he knew of no one who had ever really changed their sexual orientation.  Needless to say, all of this caused howls and shrieks from the "godly Christian" crowd which has sought to keep the "ex-gay" myth alive for financial profit and the political purpose of opposing gay rights on every front.  Now, another prominent former "ex-gay" leader has joined the list of those admitting that he and others like him worked at perpetuating a lie.  The truth is that rather than throwing away thousands of dollars and undergoing dangerous and discredited therapy, those who suffer from religious brainwashing or who have selfish, self-centered parents would be far better served seeking therapy to overcome their religious brainwashing so as to find peace with how God/nature made them.  The Bilerico Project looks at this lates repudiation of the ex-gay lie.  Here are excerpts (read Smid's entire blog post too):
Former "ex-gay" minister John J. Smid, who left the ministry in 2008 and apologized in 2010, repudiating the "ex-gay" myth in a blog post and embracing homosexuality as a naturally-occurring variation of the human sexual experience.

Former "ex-gay" minister John J. Smid, who left the ministry in 2008 and apologized in 2010, repudiating the "ex-gay" myth in a blog post and embracing homosexuality as a naturally-occurring variation of the human sexual experience. Smid stated:

"The ExGay message of God's deliverance from the homosexual orientation has been destructive! It has created a dangling carrot of change without any real outcome of freedom from homosexuality. The damage has occurred in the subsequent loss of one's soul, or the destruction stemming from serial fleshly encounters that only leave one void and searching for the next one.

"I believe much of my grief today is also from how I played a role in furthering the message of deliverance from homosexuality. I used to teach that hope for their eternity would come when they found freedom. I conveyed a message that God would be more pleased with people who were not gay. I spent a tremendous amount of energy attempting to help men and women find a life of freedom of their natural homosexual desires.

"Today I realize that it is far better to help men and women accept their homosexuality is innate, and an authentic reality. Regardless of where it came from, it is what it is. There is freedom in Christ for someone to hope for intimate connection with anther compatible human being if they so choose to pursue it. For those who are satisfied with a life of singleness, there's a place for them to accept being gay and feel accepted and loved within that life experience. But neither choice can be made until they accept their homosexuality without shame."
Will this stop the catholic Church, Mormon Church and many others from preaching  and marketing the "ex-gay" lie?  Of course not.  There's too much money involved and it is too central to their efforts to marginalize gays under the law.  And once again we see that no one lies as often or as cynically that conservative Christians.  If their lips are moving, it is almost guaranteed that they are lying.  The larger public needs to fully realize this and give these people absolutely no respect or deference.

The Victims of Republican Obstruction: the Poor and Less Fortunate

As noted frequently on this blog, the Republican Party constantly wraps itself in feigned religiosity, pretends to honor the principles of the Gospels, and claims to be the party of "family values."  All are lies and ruses to dupe the ignorant.  Especially, the claim of being the family values political party.  In truth, the GOP only supports families that are well to do whites who are also preferably knuckle dragging conservative Christians.  Families who are non-white, down on their luck financially and/or do not fit the image of the mythical family of Beaver Clever simple are not wanted or welcome.  Indeed, the GOP would rather that these families would cease to exist.   And to achieve this goal the GOP opposes so-called Obama care that would benefit millions of Americans and seeks to dismantle the social safety net.  An editorial in the Washington Post looks at GOP obstruction and those it harms.  Here are excerpts:

AFTER PRESSING for months, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) last week finally convinced his legislature to expand the state’s Medicaid program as part of the national restructuring of the health-care system known as the Affordable Care Act (ACA). According to calculations from the Urban Institute, some 212,000 uninsured Michiganders now stand to obtain health-care coverage.

It’s a sad fact that Mr. Snyder deserves congratulations for this accomplishment. You wouldn’t think state leaders would need convincing to accept mountains of federal cash to help people with meager incomes obtain health insurance. But many Republican leaders and activists have waged a disruptive and harmful campaign to complicate, delay and undermine the ACA, which starts phasing in when state insurance markets begin enrolling customers in a month.

The most prominent efforts have been in Congress, where conservatives’ latest move has been to insist on holding the government budget process hostage to obtain cuts in funds intended for ACA implementation. But the most disruptive activity has been at the state level. Twenty-one states have refused to expand their Medicaid programs, blowing a large hole in the ACA’s coverage strategy. The Urban Institute estimates that 5 million people won’t get coverage as a result.

As The Post’s Sandhya Somashekhar reported last week, Republicans at the state level also have applied a variety of less visible measures to impede the law’s implementation. Some won’t enforce consumer protections, including a ban on insurance companies rejecting patients with pre-existing conditions. The result will be illegal discrimination.
Georgia’s state government is doing “everything in our power to be an obstructionist,” Ralph Hudgens, the state’s insurance commissioner, boasted.

Congress enacted the Affordable Care Act. The Supreme Court found most of its provisions to be constitutional. Republicans, having opposed the bill and supported the legal challenge to it, are entitled to be unhappy about the outcome, though in our view they are wrong on the merits. They are not entitled to obstruct and flout the laws of the United States. On the contrary, they have an obligation to cooperate in good faith with wholly legitimate laws duly passed and reviewed by all three branches of government.

Where did the GOP get this mind set?  From the "godly Christian" folk and their largely conservative Christian Tea Party first cousins who continue to think that they are above the law.  The GOP has been hijacked by those motivated solely by greed and hate.  Whenever they begin to blather about family values they need to be condemned loudly.  They are liars plain and simple.

Former ‘Ex-Gay’ Superstar John Paulk Finally Renounces His ‘Ex-Gay’ Past

1998 cover story lie

If one studies the parade of "ex-gays" trotted out time and again by the Christofascists to support their politically motivated claims that gays can "change," what one finds is a sad parade of still gay men, many of whom later admit that they never changed their sexual orientation.  Yes, there are some how will continue the charade and help the charlatans like Michele Bachmann's (in my view) closeted husband, the "family values" organizations and the fraudulent "ex-gay ministries,"  but most in my opinion are losers who continue the lies because they have no other viable options to make a buck and/or still suffer from religious brainwashing and refuse to let go of the lies they were indoctrinated with.  These fakes are no more straight than the man in the moon.  Now, one of the most high profile "ex-gays" of them all, John Paulk has renounced his "ex-gay" past and asked forgiveness for the harm he did masquerading as an "ex-gay."  Truth Wins Out  has details.  Here are highlights:

In a piece in PQ Monthly, Paulk, who has perhaps done more to hurt LGBT families than any other single person in the “ex-gay” industry, states for the record that he no longer endorses efforts to change people’s sexuality:
“Until recently, I have struggled all my life in feeling unloved and unaccepted,” Paulk said. “I have been on a journey during the last few years in trying to understand God, myself, and how I can best relate to others. During this journey I have made many mistakes and I have hurt many people including people who are close to me. I have also found a large number of people who accept me for who I am regardless of my past, any labels, or what I do.”

Paulk continued, “I no longer support the ex-gay movement or efforts to attempt to change individuals — especially teens who already feel insecure and alienated. I feel great sorrow over the pain that has been caused when my words were misconstrued. I have worked at giving generously to the gay community in Portland where I work and live. I am working hard to be authentic and genuine in all of my relationships.”

John Paulk was at one time the most well known and influential person in the “ex-gay” industry, appearing on the cover of Newsweek with his wife Anne in 1998 under the headline, “Gay For Life?” He was instrumental in forming the Love Won Out “ex-gay” roadshow, which subjected countless LGBT youth and their families to misinformation, indoctrination and lies, and which destroyed many families in the process. In 2000, Wayne Besen, founder of Truth Wins Out, photographed John Paulk coming out of a Washington, DC, gay bar, and the lies began to unravel. Though John resigned from the board of Exodus International following this incident, the Religious Right continued to use the Paulks’ story as evidence that the “ex-gay” life was a fairy tale rather than a nightmare, and many LGBT people and their families have been damaged or destroyed over the years as a result.

John and his wife moved to Portland, Oregon, shortly thereafter and lived relatively quiet lives as John built a catering company called Mezzaluna, staffed by curiously attractive gay men. John and Anne didn’t really disappear from the “ex-gay” scene, though. John spoke in 2010 at the Evergreen “ex-gay” conference, and in 2012, Anne was a co-founder of the Restored Hope Network, a group of “ex-gay” ministries that defected from Exodus International when Alan Chambers began to tell the truth, that reparative therapy and “ex-gay” ministries do not change anyone’s sexuality. Indeed, Anne seemed to double down on the lie at the group’s inaugural meeting, telling the crowd:
“I never thought I would be married and the mother of three sons,” she told the eager crowd mixed with anti-gay extremists and the hurting parents of gay children.
Anne Paulk continues to propagate a false narrative of her own “ex-gay” life in order to stay in the spotlight and make money off of suffering LGBT people and their families.

In light of  John Paulk’s announcement, Truth Wins Out also calls upon Anne Paulk and the rest of the Religious Right to immediately cease using the Paulks’ story to sell harmful “ex-gay” therapy to vulnerable people. “Anne Paulk and her Religious Right cohort must immediately cease lying to people about the false ‘ex-gay Paulk fairy-tale,’” said Truth Wins Out Associate Director Evan Hurst. “Indeed, both Paulks should become poster children for the very real nightmare that has been the ‘ex-gay’ experience for so many LGBT people.”

The "ex-gays for pay" are truly ugly parasites who prey on troubled gays and their families to make a buck and to aid the anti-gay propaganda spewed from far too many pulpits and disseminated by fronts for the Roman Catholic and Mormon churches.  It's all a lie.  But then, no one lies as often or as maliciously than the "godly Christian" crowd.

Nature’s Case for Same-Sex Marriage

One of the constant cries of the Christofascists is that gay sex and same sex romantic love are "unnatural" and against "natural law."  David George Haskell, a professor of biology at Sewanee, The University of the South, has an op-ed in the New York Times that debunks this myth used incessantly by the Bible beaters who prefer to cling to the writings of uneducated nomads rather than face the facts shown by science and modern knowledge.  The truth is that homosexuality and bi-sexuality are found all across nature.  It is only in man-made "natural law" first concocted in the Christian realm in the 13th century that homosexuality isn't normal.  Here are op-ed excerpts:

BIOLOGY has returned to the nation’s highest court. It’s not Darwin’s theory of evolution on the docket this time, but the nature of sex. Defenders of Proposition 8, California’s ban on gay marriage, base their case on what they call the “objective biological fact” that procreation is an exclusively heterosexual process. Citing the 18th-century English jurist William Blackstone, they argue that marriage should be “founded in nature.”

References to biology coat these arguments with a gloss of scientific rigor. But before we write nature into law, let’s take a stroll outside the Supreme Court’s chambers and check those biological facts.

If these birds and bees were the first to teach us about sex, we’ve forgotten part of the lesson. Just as some species that are mostly hermaphroditic contain unisexual individuals, some insects and vertebrates cannot be simply called male or female. Human biology joins in this rejection of binary claims of male and female.

Of course, sexuality is more than an arrangement of cells. Bonds form between sexual partners that help define the social structure of each species. What does nature on the Mall teach us about these relationships? Look, for instance, at the mallards paddling in the nearby reflecting pools. If they are like mallards elsewhere, then one in 10 of them engage in homosexual sex.

Stepping from the northern border of the Mall into the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, we come face-to-taxidermied-face with our great ape relatives. Before these apes were sequestered in museum cabinets, homosexual bonds were a natural part of their lives. This is especially true for our closest living cousins, the bonobos and chimpanzees.

The facts of biology plainly falsify the oft-repeated notion that homosexuality is unnatural. Every species has evolved its own sexual ecology, and so nature resists generalizations. Does humanity’s natural inheritance include homosexual bonds and behaviors? Certainly. This conclusion is reinforced by the growing evidence that our sexual orientation is influenced by both our genes and the environment that we experience in the womb

A wide, living rainbow arcs across the natural world. Diversity rules in sexuality, just as it does in the rest of biology. This natural variety does not provide ready-made moral guidance. But to claim that the only natural forms of sex and pair bonding occur between unambiguous males and females is to ignore the facts of human biology. Let those who wish for marriage to be “founded in nature” take note: the view outside the Supreme Court is full of life’s beautiful sexual variegation.

Haskell gives many other examples of bi-sexuality and homosexuality in the op-ed, but you get the point.  Like so much else that the Christofascists and their political whores in the GOP claim, the claim that homosexuality is "unnatural" is a lie.

American Sociological Association Files Prop 8 Brief Demolishing Arguments Against Gay Parenting

One of the favored arguments of the anti-gay hate merchant crowd is to claim that same sex parenting results in impaired or less well adjusted children.  Like most every thing that comes out of their mouths this effort to denigrate and stigmatize gays isn't true but is used as part of the Christofascist smoke screen to avoid admitting that only one thing lies behind DOMA and Proposition 8: religious based prejudice if not outright hate and animus.  Yesterday, the American Sociological Association ("ASA") filed amicus briefs in the Proposition 8 and DOMA appeals before the U. S. Supreme Court that stopped just short of calling the defenders of Proposition 8 and the falsely named Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group of the U.S. House of Representatives outright liars.  Here is an excerpt from the ASA press release on the brief:

“An issue at the heart of these cases is whether family composition, per se, affects the well-being of children and thus, provides a justification for limiting the right to marry,” said Ridgeway, the Lucie Stern Professor of Social Sciences in the Sociology Department at Stanford University. “This core question is an empirical one and is the subject of a broad range of social science research. As a scientific body, ASA has a duty to provide the court with a systematic and balanced review of the evidence to assess what the consensus of scholarly research has shown.”

In their briefs to the court, the Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group of the U.S. House of Representatives, which is defending DOMA, the Hollingsworth Petitioners, which are defending Proposition 8, and their respective supporters assert that children fare better with opposite-sex parents than with same-sex parents.

“When the social science evidence is exhaustively examined—which the ASA has done—the facts demonstrate that children fare just as well when raised by same-sex parents,” states the ASA amicus brief. “Unsubstantiated fears regarding same-sex child rearing do not overcome these facts and do not justify upholding DOMA and Proposition 8.”

Of course the supporters of DOMA and Proposition 8 care nothing about what science and empirical evidence shows because their sole agenda is to force their religious beliefs on all Americans and to subvert the First Amendment guarantee of religious freedom to all Americans, not just the Christofascists.   It's all about them and, truth be told, they don't give a damn about children.  Here are excerpts from the ASA briefs:

However, the claim that same-sex parents produce less positive child outcomes than opposite-sex parents—either because such families lack both a male and female parent or because both parents are not the biological parents of their children—contradicts abundant social science research. Decades of methodologically sound social science research, especially multiple nationally representative studies and the expert evidence introduced in the district courts below, confirm that positive child wellbeing is the product of stability in the relationship between the two parents, stability in the relationship between the parents and child, and greater parental socioeconomic resources. Whether a child is raised by same-sex or opposite-sex parents has no bearing on a child’s wellbeing.

The clear and consistent consensus in the social science profession is that across a wide range of indicators, children fare just as well when they are raised by same-sex parents when compared to children raised by opposite-sex parents. The social science studies cited by BLAG, Proposition 8 Proponents, and their amici to support their arguments fail to address same-sex parents at all. Accordingly, as a matter of science, these studies cannot serve as the basis for conclusions about same-sex parents and related child outcomes and do not undermine the social science consensus that children fare just as well with same-sex parents.

To the extent some of the studies cited by BLAG and the Proposition 8 Proponents show that stability improves child outcomes, they confirm that marriage rights for same-sex couples and the federal recognition of such marriages are likely to improve the wellbeing of children of same-sex parents by providing enhanced family stability. The research presented in this brief articulates these points in greater detail, and demonstrates that the government’s interest in promoting the wellbeing of children is neither substantially nor rationally connected to DOMA or Proposition 8, because the overwhelming scientific evidence shows clearly that same-sex couples are equally capable of generating positive child outcomes.
The sad truth is that nowadays, no one lies more than the self-anointed "godly Christian" crowd and its political whore and sycophants in the GOP.   If their lips are moving, it is a safe bet that they are lying.

Hate Group FRC: Uganda Is Exemplary and "Prospered by God"

FRC president and white supremacist loving Tony Perkins continues to whine about FRC's designation as a hate group, but then continues to make statements and support positions that do nothing but confirm that the Southern Poverty Law Center's hate group designation of FRC was 100% on the money.  With horrific anti-gay legislation before Uganda's joke of a Parliament, Perkins is lauding Uganda as "exemplary" and stating that Uganda is a "modern example of a nation prospered by God." Obviously, Perkins either has never been to Uganda or he's drinking even stronger Kool-Aid than usual.  I have a friend working with a support agency in Uganda and while their is much natural beauty, by any other measure the country is an utter hell hole.  If it's an example of a nation "prospered by God," we all need to be fleeing Uganda's example as quickly as possible.  Here are article highlights from The Advocate on Perkins' batshitery:

Tony Perkins claims that his tweet supporting Uganda's president had nothing to do with the headlines the country's Parliament generated by renewing consideration of the so-called "kill the gays" bill.

The timing of his tweet, he claims, is a coincidence. Perkins blames the media for a conflation and specifically calls out the Human Rights Campaign, which condemned Perkins as president of the Family Research Council for supporting Uganda at this critical moment.

In a newsletter today, Perkins downplayed his tweet, in which he said "American liberals are upset that Ugandan Pres is leading his nation in repentance — afraid of a modern example of a nation prospered by God."

As he often does, Perkins attacked the media. "With fewer journalists able to separate the news from their personal politics, groups like FRC are no longer fighting bias — but outright deception," he wrote today.

Saying that Uganda is a "modern example of a nation prospered by God" apparently doesn't necessarily include its active consideration of a law that criminalizes homosexuality and potentially puts gay people to the death penalty. Activists are watching the country's Parliament with renewed alarm in recent days after its leaders pledged to pass the bill.

It's unclear what the FRC believes should be the consequence for engaging in "gay and lesbian acts," but in the very least it has in the past backed campaigns to stop shopping at businesses that support LGBT employees. It has also defended so-called "reparative therapy" as a plausible remedy despite the dangerous consequences warned of by top psychological associations.

No one knows more about lies and deception than Perkins.  Virtually every word that comes out of his mouth is a lie and deception of one sort or another.  Nowadays, the best way to identify "family values" Christians is by the incessant lies they disseminate.
