Official word was released today that next year's Out in the Park - Hampton Road's largest Pride event will be moving to Norfolk's Town Point Park (pictured above - the maritime museum and cruise ship terminal are to the far right) in the heart of the downtown waterfront. The event will be held on June 5, 2011, and will be much larger and more upscale than prior HR Pride events. Joining the list of sponsoring organizations are Equality Virginia, Hampton Roads Business OutReach ("HRBOR"), and AltDaily.com. More details will be forthcoming over the coming months. To follow updates for now, visit this Facebook page. Here are some brief highlights:
*
Out in the Park is Hampton Roads' annual celebration of our GLBT community, GLBT supporters, and everyone with love in their hearts. We're beyond excited to announce that this year's event will be held in the 757's premiere festival space, Town Point Park.
*
Why the move to Town Point Park and Norfolk? The most blunt reason is that the event has outgrown its current location in Chesapeake. Town Point Park-- with its reputation of being inclusive and welcoming all, just like Out in the Park--is the next natural home.
*
More details to come as they unfold, but for now... Save the date! Invite your friends and spread the word! Get excited!
*
This is a huge move for the City of Norfolk. Perhaps the City of Hampton's first Pride event last year added some momentum. By the way, Hampton will have it's 2nd Pride event on June 11, 2011 in Mill Point Park in downtown Hampton. We will have a full Pride week.
