As Joe By God reports, the currently incarcerated Buju Banton thankfully did not win a Grammy last night, although it is still a travesty that he was even nominated. Here are Joe's comments:

We'll never know if GLAAD's campaign against murder music star Buju Banton's Grammy nomination is at least partially to credit for his loss tonight, but the happy fact is that there will be no celebration in Banton's Florida prison cell tonight where he awaits trial for conspiracy to traffic eleven pounds of cocaine.

Perhaps some other "artists" will get the message that singing about hate and murder is less and less acceptable on the international music market.

I think we should assume that Stephen Marley's "Mind Control Acoustic" album won for Best Reggae album because it was the best of the nominated reggae albums in the opinion of Recording Academy voters.
The petition campaign by GLAAD, GMAD (Gay Men of African Descent), JBJC (National Black Justice Coalition), the New York City Anti-Violence Project and BiNet, and the powerful, one page 01/29/10 ad in Variety, signed by more than 20 gay rights, civil rights and anti violence organizations, will have succeeded if the Recording Academy never again nominates someone with a well-known reputation for promoting hatred and violence.
