Karen and Mike Pence's Anti-Gay Animus Puts Them Far Outside the Mainstream

Click image to read sign in background.
Mike Pence has delusions of being president, yet the anti-gay views of he and his wife place them far outside the main stream of American opinion.  Indeed, the only evangelical Christians - who have demonstrated to the rest of the country their complete moral bankruptcy by steadfastly supporting Donald Trump - seemingly share their anti-gay animus.  As CNN notes in referencing a Pew Research survey, two-thirds of Americans said gay or lesbian relationships are morally acceptable.  The third of the population who share anti-gay beliefs equates to almost the same percentage of the population that supports Trump.  If Pence dreams of the White House, he needs to stop clinging to and loudly supporting views rejected by a strong majority of Americans.   Here are highlights from CNN:

Second lady Karen Pence has taken a job as an art teacher at a Christian school in Northern Virginia that bans gay students, parents, and employees.
The policy places the school on the other side of US public opinion; recent polling on the issue suggests most people don't see the homosexuality as immoral or even as an issue of morality.
According to a Pew poll from May 2018, two-thirds of Americans said gay or lesbian relationships are morally acceptable and only 30% said they are morally wrong. This was the highest number to say gay or lesbian relationships are morally acceptable since Gallup began tracking the question in 2001.
Pew's findings that homosexuality isn't controversial are backed up by a Gallup poll from December 2017. While fewer overall said homosexuality was either morally acceptable (22%) or morally wrong (34%), that's because they offered a third option: not a moral issue. When offered the third option, 44% said that homosexual behavior wasn't a moral issue.
And most people don't want religion to dictate government policies on LGBT issues, from an AP-NORC survey in August, 2018. Almost half of all respondents said they thought religion should have no influence at all on government policies. A third said it should have a lot or some influence and 16% said it should have "not much."
In a May, 2018 Gallup poll, 67% of Americans said that marriages between same-sex couples should be recognized by the law as valid and have the same rights as other marriages.

Note: half of Americans want religion to have no influence on government policies.  As Millennials become more politically engaged, expect Mike Pence's anti-gay bigotry to become even a bigger political liability.

Rick "Frothy Mix" Santorum Declares His Canidacy

Self-loathing closet case Rick Santorum announced yesterday that he is running again for the Republican presidential nomination.  The GOP clown car just gets more and more crowded.  On the plus side, with "Frothy Mix" now in the race along with Mike Huckabee, the Christofascists batshitery will be harder to keep under wraps, I'm sure much to the dismay of the so-called GOP establishment.  Think Progress has a piece that reminds us - and we need to remind everyone else - just how batshit crazy Santorum is in fact.  Here are some article highlights:

Now that he’s running for president again, many analysts and voters may recall Santorum’s controversial assertions during his 2011 campaign. His frequent comparisons of same-sex relationships to inanimate objects like trees, basketballs and paper towels became a major punchline of the campaign cycle.

But here are ten equally outrageous comments he’s made that you may not remember:

Putting women in combat is a bad idea because of “emotions that are involved.” Women’s “emotions” may render them unworthy soldiers and thus not fit for the battlefield, according to the former Pennsylvania senator. “People naturally may do things that may not be in the interests of the mission because of other types of emotions that are involved,” Santorum said after the Pentagon eased restrictions on women in combat in 2012. He has also made dire warnings about what would happen to the military after Don’t Ask Don’t Tell was repealed and gays were allowed to openly serve.

American culture is being corrupted by “the NBA” and “rock concerts.” According to Santorum, our culture and manners and decency have been collectively ruined by the NBA, among other culprits.

His top issue in 2012 was opposing “all forms of pornography.” During his 2012 presidential bid, Santorum vowed to oppose “all forms of pornography” if elected president. In fact, pornography was the top issue on his campaign’s website. He warned that “America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography,” which “causes profound brain changes in both children and adults, resulting in widespread negative consequences.”

Obamacare is (a) like apartheid, (b) a plot to kill the opposition’s voters, and (c) the “final death knell” of America. Santorum’s anti-Obamacare arguments regularly delve into the absurd.

If you don’t have an ID, you’re trying to rig the election. More than one in ten Americans don’t have a government-issued photo identification, like a driver’s license or a passport. And, according to a study by the Brennan Center for Justice, minorities and low-income citizens are more likely than others not to have a government-issued photo ID. But to Santorum, each one of these millions of individuals aren’t disenfranchised voters; they’re out to commit fraud.

Even if it survives Obamacare, “our country will fall” because of same-sex marriage. The government recognizing gay people’s love will be the downfall of America, according to Santorum.

He believes consensual sex between gay people should be illegal. Until 2003, states were still permitted to outlaw sodomy. Though those statutes were struck down in a landmark Supreme Court case that year, as recently as 2011, Santorum was still wishing for the good old days when states could tell gay people what they can and cannot do in the bedroom.

In Obama’s America, religious people are on “the path” to being beheaded. During a Texas town hall in 2012, Santorum predicted that America was on the road toward beheading religious people because of their faith.

After Jerry Sandusky sexual assault revelations, he defended Penn State. Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky is currently in prison serving a 30-60 year sentence for molesting young children. But Santorum, an alumni of Penn State, rushed to the university’s defense after an investigation found that officials had covered up evidence of Sandusky’s misdeeds.

Health insurance companies should discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions. There’s a belief among some conservatives that insurance companies should be permitted to discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions, though they leave open the question of whether or not insurers ought to do that. Not Santorum. According to the former Pennsylvania senator, people with pre-existing conditions “should pay more.”
Santorum belongs in a mental ward, not the White House.  Perhaps he an Ken Cuccinelli need to get together and help each other come out . . . .

Rick Santorum Cites "God Hates Fags"

Hysterical, self-loathing closet case Rick Santorum will seemingly do anything to remain in the public eye as he moves towards another insane presidential campaign, the real purpose of which may be to keep himself on the speaker circuit and maintain a nice income rolling in.  Now, Santorum while appearing on Face the Nation has used the "God Hates Fags" slogan of the late Fred Phelps to (i) justify license to discriminate laws, and (ii) stay in the media eye.  The man is an utter douche bag and demonstrates how religious brainwashing can literally make one crazy.  The Raw Story looks at Santorum's new low.  Here are highlights:

Likely Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum on Sunday quoted Westboro Church’s infamous “God Hates Fags” slogan in defense of an Indiana law that allowed Christian businesses to discriminate against same-sex couples.

“I think the current language that the federal law is — and now Indiana is — has been held to have a pretty limited view of religious liberty — religious freedom is in the workplace,” the former Pennsylvania senator insisted. “And I think we need to look at, as religious liberty is now being pushed harder, to provide more religious protections, and that bill doesn’t do that.”

Santorum argued that wedding planners should not be forced to serve same-sex couples because “tolerance is a two-way street.”  “If you’re a print shop and you are a gay man, should you be forced to print ‘God Hates Fags’ for the Westboro Baptist Church because they hold those signs up?” he asked. “Should the government — and this is really the case here — should the government force you to do that?”

“And that’s what these cases are all about.
However, Sarah Warbelow of the Human Rights Campaign told O’Donnell that Santorum seemed to misunderstand the law.

“The legislation would have done no such thing,” she said. “It explicitly allowed individuals to use their religious beliefs to undermine other types of laws that provide protection, not only against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, but against other religious minorities and in some instances, against African-Americans and Asian-Americans.”
I wish someone would "out" Santorum and remove him from the political stage once and for all.

Lindsey Graham, a/k/a Palmetto Queen, Wants SCOTUS to Uphold Gay Marriage Bans

If one wants an example of a closeted gay who uses his political position to harm other gays, look no farther than South Carolina GOP Senator Lindsey Graham.  Graham is such a prissy, lisping queen that I and others - I think Pam Spaulding first coined the phrase - refer to him as the Palmetto Queen.  Graham consistently supports anti-gay legislation and now is calling for the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold state marriage bans.  His own self-loathing and desire to disguise the fact that he's queer as a three dollar bill drives him to do constant damage to the lives of others.  He's a number one example of why such individuals need to be outed and I hope to Hell it happens to Graham sooner than later. The Washington Blade looks at Grahams latest anti-gay stance:

One day before comparing marriage equality to polygamy, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) added his name to the list of potential 2016 presidential contenders who are looking to the Supreme Court to uphold state bans prohibiting same-sex marriage.

Speaking to the Washington Blade in the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday, Graham had little to say when asked about pending litigation before the court, but made his position clear.

“I hope the court will allow each state to define marriage within its borders,” Graham said.

Graham was cautious about endorsing a constitutional amendment planned by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) that would prohibit courts from overturning state marriage laws, but expressed an openness to the measure.

Graham, who has set up an exploratory committee to evaluate a potential 2016 bid for the White House, made the comments after the U.S. Supreme Court agreed this month to hear same-sex marriage lawsuits and amid anticipation justices will hand down a nationwide ruling by the end of June.

Meanwhile, state legislators in South Carolina have introduced legislation that would cut off funds for distributing marriage licenses to same-sex couples and would allows clerks to refuse a license to same-sex couples if doing so would violate a religious belief

During the Senate Armed Services Committee hearing, Graham suggested a court ruling in favor of same-sex marriage would be a slippery slope leading to recognition of polygamy.

“If the Supreme Court rules that same-sex marriage bans are unconstitutional, it violates the Constitution for a state to try to limit marriage between a man and a woman, that’s clearly the law of the land unless there’s a constitutional amendment to change it, what legal rationale will be in play that would prohibit polygamy?” Graham asked.

What's Really Behind the Vatican's Reclosing the Door to Gays

There has been much commentary on the recent synod in Rome where at first it appeared that the Roman Catholic Church might finally come into the 21st Century in terms of its treatment of gays - as well as divorced and remarried Catholics and its position on contraception.  Sadly, the forces of reaction rallied and promising statements were erased from the final statement at the end of the synod.  Some hope that next year's assembly may be more progressive, but in order for that to happen the Church's sick neurosis toward all things sexual must end.  Most importantly, a mindset that formed in the Middle Ages must die once and for all.  That mindset?  Chapter 14 of The Origins and Role of Same-Sex Relations in Human Societies explains it well.  It's a mindset alive and well within the Church hierarchy.  Here are some excerpts:
There is one evil, an evil above all other evils, that I am aware is always within me, that grievously and piteously lacerates and afflicts my soul.  It was with me from the cradle, it grew with me in childhood, in adolescence, in my youth it always  stuck to me, and it does not desert me even now that my limbs are failing because of my old age.  This evil is sexual desire, carnal delight, the storm of lust that has smashed and battered my unhappy soul, emptied it of all strength, and left it weak and empty.
Late in the life of Saint Anselm of Canterbury anguished in these words over the sexual drive that, despite a lifetime of devotion to God, stubbornly refused to release him even in old age. In writing these words, Anselm could have been speaking for many other Medieval clergymen who devoted themselves to the church's strict anti-sexual moral teachings - a moral code that demonized their own sexual natures.  The roots of the psychological disturbance or neurosis are easy to see in the sincere dedication of these devout clergymen to the ascetic sexual ideal that not only required them to suppress a fundamental human instinct, but taught them that an innermost selves was evil.  The conflict between their beliefs, on the one hand, and the urges of their bodies on the other, set in motion a psychological struggle that was, in fact, a classic example of neurosis as defined in standard psychoanalytic reference work, . . .

Such a conflict would appear to be particularly acute in the case of a person conditioned by religious indoctrination to be repelled by sex, one of the most basic instinctual drives.  If the urges were homosexual, the psychological stress would be even greater.  The "neurotic symptoms" produced in individuals with such an internal conflict typically take the form of reaction formation, a psychological defense in which the negativity they feel toward the intolerable characteristic is directed to others who display the same loathed characteristics. . . . . the level of hostility they displayed to homosexuality was directly proportional to the strength of homosexual responsiveness recorded within each of them.

Putting it another way, because of the distorted lens through which such clergymen perceiced sex, and because of his own emotional discomfort with it, he could never deal with the subject truly rationally or dispationately.  Hence the references we see to sexual behavior in the morally conservative clergy of the Middle Ages are in almost all cases couched in histrionic and super-heated hyperbole.  Likewise the visceral disgust conservative clergy felt for those practicing homosexuality . . . .

The centuries have passed since this mindset developed, but most of the aging Catholic clerics still cling to a 13th century concept of "natural law" and exhibit the same neurosis described by the author.  Thus, when I described the Church hierarchy and fundamentalist Christians as "mentally ill," they are in fact mentally/psychologically disturbed.   Until this mindset dies, gays can expect more hysteria as we gain equality.  The more we become accepted by society, the greater the stress on those indoctrinated in out dated and ignorant understandings of sexuality.

Ever Delusional Rick Santorum Planning Another Presidential Run?

Other than perhaps Ken Cuccinelli, no one in the Republican Party better demonstrates the insanity of self-loathing closeted gay men who cannot over come their poisonous religious upbringing.  Having been raised Catholic myself and of a not too much older generation that Cuccinelli and Santorum, I see the same pattern in both men that haunted me for years, except I never sought to harm other gays as a way of expiating my inner conflict.  As I jokingly say, I figured out after three children that fathering children would not miraculously make me straight.  With seven children each, neither Cuccinelli or Santorum have gotten the message.  While Cuccinelli is hopefully sliding into obscurity, Santorum is still being driven my his egomania and efforts to do some type of penance for his inner desires.  Thus, rather than seeking the mental help intervention that he so desperately needs, Santorum is moving to mount another presidential primary run - something that ought to terrify the few sane Republicans who remain while thrilling Democrats.  Politico looks at Santorums delusional activities to date.  Here are excerpts:
Rick Santorum helped drag out the 2012 Republican primary, sending Mitt Romney limping into the general election.  Santorum’s lesson: Get in even earlier in 2016.

His big money benefactor, Foster Friess, still adores him. He’s headed to Iowa in October to meet with key conservative activists. And he is growing his grass-roots network beyond early primary states.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus earlier this year called the primary process a “complete disaster,” promising to slash the number of debates to prevent “the traveling circus” from hijacking the race as Santorum, Newt Gingrich and others did in 2012. The primary season pushed Romney further and further to the right as he burned through cash, instead of answering the Obama machine’s attacks on him.

But Santorum has no apologies. So while the field of social conservatives is expected to be stronger in 2016, the Pennsylvania Republican’s early moves could still put him in a better position in the next go-round, setting up the threat of an even bigger problem for establishment Republicans if they don’t prepare for another onslaught of outsiders eager to beat up the party’s eventual nominee.

Even if there are fewer debates, some Republicans fear candidates like Santorum could hurt their chances in the general.

“It’s going to be another crowded field of candidates, all scrambling for the most conservative title. By the time we get a candidate, everyone will be bloodied,” said Lisa Camooso Miller, a GOP consultant and former RNC spokeswoman. “I find myself hoping that a unifying candidate will emerge from the sidelines, but that doesn’t seem likely. Without a unified field, we stand to witness a near-identical result in 2016. It’ll be especially disappointing if the GOP is going head to head with the Clinton operation.”

Santorum’s return to the national stage isn’t welcomed by some establishment Republicans who have tried to limit candidates’ exposure on social issues because they want to take back the White House. . . . . But Santorum’s not planning on shying away from his conservative Christian platform — and thinks party officials who do are making a mistake.

Personally, while I think Santorum is batshit crazy, I look forward to him continuing to make the Christian Right Frankenstein monster a continued problem for the GOP.

Karma Bites BacK: Homophobic Archbishop John Nienstedt Investigated for Same Sex Relationships

Archbishop Nienstedt - Self-Loathing Closet Case?
I have often said that the more loudly one is homophobic and dripping in anti-gay animus, the more likely it is that we will hear that the extreme homophobe has been outed or implicated in the types of same sex relationships they purport to decry.   Here in America, few have surpassed  Twin Cities Archbishop John Nienstedt in anti-gay hysteria and the the condemnation of self-accepting gays and their same sex relationships.  Now, it turns out that Nienstedt is under investigation by his own diocese for his own possible same sex relationships.  The irony is most sweet and I for one hope that Nienstedt ends up being exposed for exactly what he condemns in others.  The hypocrisy of the man would be shown to be complete.  The National Catholic Reporter has details.  Note how Nienstedt defends himself by saying that the allegations did not involve minors.  Isn't that just special! Here are highlights:
A Catholic archbishop in Minnesota who has been one of the hierarchy's most vocal opponents of gay rights is himself the target of an investigation into allegations that he had a series of sexual relationships with priests, seminarians and other men, it was reported Tuesday.

The investigation of Twin Cities Archbishop John Nienstedt is being conducted by a prominent Minneapolis law firm hired by the archdiocese after church officials received numerous allegations against Nienstedt.

The archdiocese confirmed the investigation, which was first reported by Commonweal, a Catholic magazine based in New York.

"The allegations do not involve minors or lay members of the faithful, and they do not implicate any kind of illegal or criminal behavior," Nienstedt said. "The allegations involve events alleged to have occurred at least decade ago, before I began serving in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis."

Commonweal's story cites Jennifer Haselberger, former top canon lawyer for Nienstedt, as saying she learned of the investigation when she was questioned by attorneys from the firm that the archdiocese hired, Greene Espel.

Nienstedt came under fire last September for allegedly failing to report or discipline clergy suspected of molesting children after Haselberger, who had resigned her post in frustration in April 2013, began leaking internal church documents that appeared to detail efforts to shield abusers.

One of Nienstedt's top aides, the Rev. Peter Laird, quit, and it later emerged that Laird did so after Nienstedt rebuffed his suggestion that the archbishop should resign.

But late last year, the archdiocese began receiving an unrelated series of allegations that Nienstedt – who was ordained a priest in Detroit before becoming a bishop in Minnesota – had a string of improper relationships with men or had made unwanted advances on others.

[I]nvestigators have received about ten sworn statements alleging sexual impropriety on the part of the archbishop dating from his time as a priest in the Archdiocese of Detroit, as Bishop of New Ulm, and while coadjutor/archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis," Haselberger told Commonweal.

She added that "he also stands accused of retaliating against those who refused his advances or otherwise questioned his conduct."

Nienstedt has earned a reputation as a leading culture warrior in the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and his signature issue is homosexuality. . . . Homosexuality, he has written, "must be understood in the context of other human disorders: envy, malice, greed, etc."
I hope the allegations prove true.  About the only thing that could make the situation more delicious would be to learn that among those with whom Nienstedt had relationships are Ken Cuccinelli and Rick Santorum, two other tortured, self-loathing closeted gays.

Rick Santorum's Delusions and Hate Speech Intensify

caption this!

Self-loathing closet case - that's what my gaydar tells me, especially having been raised Catholic - Rick Santorum continues to ratchet up the insanity and venom towards gay Americans as he (i) desperately tries to get any kind of media coverage that he can and (ii) becomes more and more of a sick caricature.  Santorum is full on board with the Christian persecution myth and seemingly will say and do anything to keep cretins among the GOP base sending him money.  The nastiest of whores has more integrity than Santorum who is claiming that Christians are being sent to re-education camps (Santorum needs to go to a sanitarium for mental health care services).  A piece in The New Civil Rights Movement looks at Santorums extreme, spittle flecked invectives against gays and shameless pandering to the "godly Christian" crowd.  Here are excerpts:
Rick Santorum's full time job no longer is touring the country with his wife and seven children. Santorum, after a failed career as a U.S. Senator and then failed attempt to win the Republican presidential nomination, is now the CEO of a Christian movie production company. EchoLight Studios produces "family values" films like last Christmas' "The Christmas Candle," which grossed $68,655 its opening weekend and a reported $2.2 million overall.

Santorum's studio, according to Right Wing Watch, has a business partnership with the anti-gay hate group American Family Association. He sat down with AFA's Bryan Fischer today to talk about his next film, "One Generation Away: The Erosion of Religious Liberty." It's name, of course, comes from a quote by Ronald Reagan.

The film "draws heavily from the right-wing narrative about supposed anti-Christian persecution in America," Right Wing Watch reports, adding, "Santorum told Fischer that business owners who refuse service to gay customers have been sent to “reeducation camps” and that pastors in the U.S. may soon be thrown into jail or martyred."

“The fight to protect our religious freedom is paramount to our country’s future prosperity,” Santorum says in a Time magazine article titled, "Santorum Film: American Believers Could Face Nazi Fate."
The comparison to Nazi Germany is bound to raise eyebrows, if not criticism. It is not an uncommon analogy for Santorum—as Dana Milbank wrote in 2012, “Santorum sees Nazis everywhere: in the Middle East, in doctor’s offices and medical labs, in the Democratic Party, and now in the White House.” Sheets explains the inclusion of the Nazi comparison this way: “This example was used to illustrate the extreme consequences that can occur when freedoms begin to erode unchecked. The ‘Church’ in Germany sat by as their freedoms and the freedoms of the Jews were restricted. By the time they woke up, it was too late. America is NOT Nazi Germany nor is there an inference in the movie that our government is taking that extremist position.”
Santorum's film is filled with cameo appearances by leaders of the anti-gay religious right.
Santorum needs to do himself, his family and the rest of us a favor and admit that he desperately wants to suck cock and admit that the thought that many gays are leading happy, fulfilled lives in same sex relationships absolutely makes him crazy.

Maher Challenges Ralph Reed to Explain Bible Support for Slavery, Etc.

The Christofascists love to cite the Bible as being "the inspired word of God" and as being inerrant, especially as they loudly attack gays and others whom they don't like.  The problem with this course of action, however,is that the Bible contains a lot of truly foul stuff: support for slavery, subjugation of women, murder and violence, etc. Recently, closeted Christofacist Ralph Reed appeared on Bill Maher's show - one has to wonder WTF Reed was thinking - where Maher confronted Reed on the Christofascists very selective interpretation of the Bible as being inerrant and "the inspired word of God."  The Raw Story has details.  Here are highlights:
Real Time host Bill Maher clashed with Christian political activist Ralph Reed over the nature of the Christian faith on Friday, saying that a religion based on a text advocating for stoning women who had sex before marriage and for slavery was inherently flawed.

“If the Bible’s a perfect book written by a perfect guy, why is this in there?” Maher asked Reed. “Why did Jesus need to come along to correct his dad? I don’t get it.”

“But I’m asking you about the Bible,” Maher said, pressing his point. “People think that the Bible should be literally taken [as] true. And these are the literal words in the Bible from God.”

“But Bill, you’re ignoring the New Testament,” Reed responded. “Not one of those verses occurs in the New Testament. You’re ignoring the new covenant.”

“So the Old Testament — the Jew God — he’s bad,” Maher said.  “I didn’t say that,” Reed answered, laughing. “Bill, Jesus was a Jew.”
Reed's problem is that the Bible isn't "the inspired word of God" and it was authored by ignorant men who had no modern knowledge of science and medical/mental health knowledge.  Increasingly, conservative Christianity is the religion of the ignorant and, in my view, the psychologically disturbed. As for Reed, I view him as a self-loathing closeted gay man - when we met in the past, Reed made my gaydar go off the charts - who has sold his soul as a Christian huckster.

David Benham Explains His "Love" For Gays By Claiming Gays Are Led By Satan

The anti-gay Benham brothers - who many mistake for looking like a gay couple.
Sometimes anti-gay bigots turn out to unwittingly be the best arguments in favor of LGBT equality.  For example, the late Fred Phelps probably opened more hearts and minds to gay acceptance that he ever contemplated.  And in the process Phelps likewise turned countless members of the Millennial generation against Christianity entirely.  With Phelps dead and gone, the Benham brothers seem to be stepping up to take on at least a part of Phelps' mantle of hate and bigotry.  Instead of shutting their mouths after being cut loose by HGTV, the Benhams seem hell bent on making the case as to why HGTV was smart to drop them and distance itself from these raging bigots as fast as possible.  Right Wing Watch, which first exposed the Benham brothers for the vile bigots that they are reports on their latest case of verbal diarrhea that underscores the correctness of HGTV's action.  Here are excerpts:
It has now been one week since we first wrote a post highlighting the anti-gay and anti-choice activism of David Benham, who was slated to host a reality TV show on HGTV with his twin brother Jason. After HGTV announced that it would not move forward with the brothers' planned reality show, the Benhams hit the conservative media circuit to claim they were the victims of a "smear campaign" filled with "complete lies,"  though neither the Benhams nor anyone else has actually bothered to explain how anything we originally reported about them was in any way false.

The bulk of the defense offered for the last week by David and Jason Benham of their past activism has been that they do not hate gay people but only hate "homosexuality and its agenda that is attacking the nation,"which is pretty much the defense offered by most of the anti-gay bigots we monitor on this blog. David Benham previously alleged that the "homosexual agenda," along with abortion rights and Islam, is controlled by "demonic forces and agendas."

Last night, they took that talking point onto Glenn Beck's television program where they repeatedly asserted that they are not at war with gay people, but are rather engaged in a spiritual war against Satan and demonic forces that are out to silence Christianity.

David added that, as Christians, they are "called to restrain evil so that good may flourish" and that is the role they are trying to play in America by taking a stand against the "demonic agenda to suppress the truth.
As past events have proven, often the loudest homophobes are those who are in reality self-loathing closet cases.  In the case of the Benhams, they doth protest way, way too much in my book
