CNN's "Gay in America" Cause Wingnuts to Flip Out

Regardless of whether one approves of the way in which CNN is proceeding with it's "Gay in America" story line, the positive is that it is placing gays in the limelight in a way that seeks to show that we are human like everyone else be we black or white. This, of course, flies directly in the face of what the homo-hating professional Christian set seeks to accomplish, namely depicting gays as perverts, would be predators of children, and sub-human in general and, therefore, worthy of discriminatory treatment. All because we refuse to live our lives according to the toxic Christianist version of Christianity. One such professional leech, I mean Christian, is Tony Perkins from the always dishonest Family Research Council (which was co-founded by George "rentboy" Rekers. Perkins, who has cuddled up to the Klan in the past and who in my view is totally incapable of telling the truth not to mention a likely closet case, has a rant on FRC's website that is all to typical of the dehumanization efforts of FRC and similar false Christian organizations. Here's some of Perkins' drivel:

CNN gave homosexual activists the gift of a free hour-long infomercial last night--in the form of a primetime special about homosexual parents called "Gary and Tony Have a Baby." Actually, it should have been called "Gary and Tony Buy a Baby." As viewers learned, the two homosexual men first purchase human eggs from an egg donor; use the sperm of one of them for in vitro fertilization; and finally rent the womb of a surrogate to bear the baby. The total cost runs a cool $160,000. The closest that host Soledad O'Brien came to raising an ethical question was to ask why the couple didn't adopt instead.

It was obvious throughout the that these men are political activists for the homosexual cause (even using the newborn as a prop at a same-sex "marriage" rally). Meanwhile, the only reference to people who oppose same-sex "marriage" . . . , was to express fear that one of them would physically harm the baby.

CNN seems content to tug at the heartstrings rather than report the news. They imply that the "love" or affection that these men feel for each other and for the baby that they've manufactured is enough.

Given the huge number of dysfunctional heterosexual households where children are sometimes not even wanted, one would think that Perkins would not act as if married heterosexual parents wasn't the be and end all. But not Tony! He can rant and malign others as much as he wants and act as a modern day Pharisee, but I suspect that if there is a God, then it's Tony's and not gay parents that has a reserved seat n Hell.

Antigay John McCain has a Gay Chief of Staff

My goodness, what will Daddy Dobson and Sarah Palin have to say about the news that John McCain's chief of staff is a sodomite homo?? Heavens, the wingnuts will be going crazy and demanding Mark Buse's head on a platter in no time. In retrospect, I guess that all it takes to get the Log Cabin Republicans' endorsement is to hire a self-loathing gay and/or power hungry and thereafter the candidate/officeholder is otherwise free to vote a totally anti-gay agenda. No doubt there will be some who whine that Buse's personal life should remain personal. I totally disagree. In my opinion if Buse's on going efforts for McCain and his anti-gay agenda seeks to to interfere with MY personal life and the personal lives of other LGBT Americans, then Buse is open game and in no way entitled to a free pass. Here are highlights from Mike Signorile(it's a long piece, but I recommend reading all of it):

What does John McCain’s loyal chief of staff – a man who apparently is in a long-term relationship with another man, and appears to be open about it to John McCain -- think about the fact that Sarah Palin devoutly worships at a church that promotes “converting” gays to heterosexuality? Mike Rogers, the blogger and activist who revealed the truth about Senator Larry Craig and others in politics, today reports this same reality about Mark Buse that I report here, with separate, independent sourcing.

But though some in the media have focused on Buse’s role as a lobbyist, none have looked at another increasingly relevant detail: Mark Buse’s sexual orientation. And yet, it’s a detail that reveals hypocrisy about John McCain that is as clear as that of his reputation to take on the corporate interests while he has registered lobbyists on his staff and campaign.

John McCain is opposed to every single gay rights measure of recent years –- from a hate crimes bill, to an anti-discrimination bill to an attempt to repeal the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy on gays in the military –- and is publicly on record supporting a ballot measure in California this November to strip gays and lesbians there of their legally-won right to marry in that state. If that isn’t enough to make it relevant to report on his 20-year-relationship with a close aide and chief of staff who is gay, the fact that Sarah Palin is now on the ticket -- garnering support for McCain from previously reticent antigay leaders like James Dobson of Focus on the Family –- surely does.

Palin adheres to Pentecostalism, a religious fundamentalist movement that is vehemently antigay and believes in the literal interpretation of the Bible. Little has been asked of Palin –- or of the McCain campaign –- about the relationship between Palin's faith and her political positions, even as many of us have seen her worshipping in her church on YouTube, explaining “God’s plan” for Iraq, praying to God for a pipeline, and thanking a Kenyan evangelical pastor know as a "witchhunter" for laying hands on her and helping her become governor.

Mark Buse’s sexual orientation and his relationship with McCain certainly are relevant facts in light of Palin’s positions, beliefs, past political career and silence on the issues right now. And John McCain is the person responsible for making them relevant by choosing Sarah Palin as a running mate.

What else does the reality of Mark Buse's life say about John McCain? Does he see his own chief of staff, someone he has known now for 20 years, as someone who should have no rights, no hate crimes protections, and no employment protection in the private sector? Does he see his own loyal chief of staff as someone who should be hounded by Christian conservatives, pressured to enter damaging “conversion” therapy programs, and made a target of violence that is inspired by the hate spewed by agents of intolerance?

The traditional media may be petrified to pick up this story but people across the country who see McCain's hypocrisy and who support equality will only demand more answers. Certainly our media could serve us better by getting us those answers rather than once again putting their heads in the sand.

MSNBC questions Charlie Crist's engagement

Long rumored closet case, Florida Governor Charlie Crist's faux engagement became a topic of discussion on MSNBC the other night. Crist, whom I have discussed in numerous posts in the past - use the blog's search function to find them all - got engaged many believe so that John McSenile would be more likely to select him for the Vice President slot on the GOP ticket. While the talk of a staged engagement/marriage has been all over the gay media, it's interesting that talking heads on MSNBC brought it up as well. Here's highlights from the Washington Blade:

A writer at Think Progress was watching MSNBC—someone has to, better him than us— as the talking heads discussed potential running mates for John Mccain, and whether there is a “glass ceiling” for unmarried politicians. Andrea Mitchell used Gov. Charlie Crist (R-FL) as an example, suggesting he'll miss out on the VP nomination because he isn't married; but then the other pundits became confused. Is he married? Or is he engaged? Chuck Todd cleared things up, however, when he suggested the engagement may be staged so Crist can have a shot at the Vice Presidency:

SCARBOROUGH: Did he get married? I thought he was engaged. Is he engaged or did he get married?

TODD: After Friday the engagement might be off if he's not the running mate, right?...I don't know!

We hate to say it, but Crist's marital status probably isn't the reason he won't get the nomination. He was probably included in the list just to woo voters in Florida, a.k.a. "Largest Swing State In America." He's certainly worked hard for the job—he even endorsed Florida's Amendment 2, which would define man/woman marriage in the state constitution, just so he could seem like a good right-winger for Uncle John. Sorry, Charlie.

Robert Knight Hyperventilates Over Gay Marriage Ruling

Homophobe extraodinaire and Christianist fanatic, Robert Knight of the Media and Culture Institute - another Christianist organization with a name formulated to give it an air of legitimacy since somehow the "Christofascsit Institute," while most apt and descriptive, would not accomplish the Christianist PR goal of duping the unwary - is having a much anticipated spasam and coniption fit over the California Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage.

I have had e-mail exchanges with Knight in the past and he is so incredibly obsessed with homosexulaity (it borders on hyteria) that in my opinion he's another self-hating closet case like Peter LaBarbera a/k/a "Porno Pete," who seems to always go "under cover for research" at gay leather events. Since Knight cannot resolve his own obbsession with gay sex with his crazy religious beliefs, therefore, all other gays most be punished and made less than full citizens. Besides belittling the Court's ruling and reasoning since anything Knight dislikes involves a "straw man arguments" and/or "judicial lawlessness and arrogance," he rants about the media because it doesn't report solely the screeching rants of the Christianists in conection with the decision. Here are some highlights of Knight's rantings:

The TV news networks and other major media followed the typical gay script in reporting the California Supreme Court’s 4-3 ruling Thursday striking down the voter-approved marriage law and presumably creating “gay marriage” in the Golden State.

ABC, NBC and CBS all featured clips of happy homosexual activists, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsome, and very brief comments from a pro-family spokesman. Only CBS identified Newsome as a Democrat, while CBS and NBC identified Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger as a Republican and ABC described him as a McCain supporter. *

In announcing the decision, ABC’s Charles Gibson said: "Today's 4-3 ruling by the California Supreme Court is clear and it is historic. Gays and lesbians have a constitutional right to marry in California. There’s been a ban on same-sex marriage in that state. The court today said that ban violates the “fundamental constitutional right to form a family relationship.” The court actually said that the law defining marriage as the union of a man and a woman was “unconstitutional.” By spinning same-sex marriage as a constitutional “right,” Gibson gave the impression that the “ban on same-sex marriage” was an injustice that needed overcoming

The media script for gay rulings or votes is simple: 1) Report the outcome, often in a triumphant or scolding tone 2); interview happy or sad gay proponents, depending on whether they’ve won; 3) expand on the outcome; 4) include a speed bump comment with an “opponent”—but only on procedure, nothing that might get people excited; 5) return to triumphal gay spokesperson; 6) speculate on next move.

As I have told him before, Knight needs to contact Michael Johnston or one of the other phony "ex-gays," get himself some hot M2M action, find a different religious denomination and leave the rest of us alone. Some time in legitimate therapy might not be amiss either.

High-Profile Tancredo Presidential Campaign Staffer Outed

A new story on the Gist, a blog by Michelangelo Signorile (http://signorile2003.blogspot.com/2007/06/high-profile-tancredo-presidential.html0, shows the continued hypocrisy of the GOP and yet another case of a self-hating gay working for the enemy. Note how according to Bay Buchanan, one's sexual orientation is a "personal matter," except for when the GOP and its Christianist base are trying to restrict one's legal rights based on sexual orientation. They cannot have it both ways. Here's a portion of the story:

Tyler Whitney (pictured at left via his my space page), the webmaster for the right-wing antigay Colorado Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo's presidential campaign, has been outed by the Michigan gay paper Between the Lines. I had reporter Todd Heywood on the show today. Bay Buchanan, Team Tancredo Senior Advisor and sister of the fire-breathing Pat Buchanan, is defending Whitney, saying, "A person's sexual preference is a personal matter and has nothing to do with the campaign.

"In other words, if he wants to work against his own kind -- for a man who's railed against gay rights and has a zero rating from the Human Rights Campaign -- we're happy to have him!

Whitney, an 18-year-old who is a rising star in right-wing Republican circles (perhaps until now), who also works at the far-right Leadership Institute in Arlington, VA, was involved with the Young Americans for Freedom chapter at Michigan State University (in East Lansing) that is now listed as a hate group by Southern Poverty Law Center. It is the first university-affiliated group to be put on SPLC's hate list, and according to SPLC's Heidi Beirich the reason it was put on the list is because of its use of slurs, a proposal to have the governance of MSU be white supremacist and "its constant immigrant bashing."

Last November, Whitney -- whose father was a speech writer for former conservative Michigan Gov. John Engler, who was no friend to gays -- went to a a YAF-sponsored protest against a pro-gay, pro-trans human rights ordinance and held a sign that said, "Go back in the closet!" Other signs at the protest included "Straight Power" and "Faggotry."

I guess Mr. Whitney's closet has exploded and that he can no longer take his own advice. The bright light of day is the best remedy for rank hypocrisy.
