Click image to enlargeOne thing that is striking is the extent to which acceptance of same sex marriage correlates with a state's level of social and economic progress. Alabama and Mississippi where gay marriage is least accepted are also the poorest and most backward states in the nation. Once again, religious based bigotry and intolerance does carry a significant price.
