George "I Love Rentboys" Rekers Resigns from NARTH

Apparently facing the reality that the rent boy to "carry my luggage" has no signs of going away - and likely with the encouragement of his erstwhile anti-gay compatriots - George Rekers has resigned his affiliations with the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality ("NARTH"). Rekers joins recently disgraced and now former NARTH executive Secretary Arthur Abba Goldberg who was revealed to have a felony record and to have done prison time for securities fraud offenses. Hmm . . . NARTH and fraud. Now there's a match made in Heaven. In truth, over the years NARTH and affiliated other faux experts like Rekers have disseminated countless lies and bogus "research" to further the myth that sexual orientation can be changed from same sex oriented to heterosexual. Ideally, appropriate licensing agencies should be reviewing Rekers' professional licenses as well. Here are highlights from Talking Points Memo on Rekers' resignation:
*
George Rekers resigned this morning from the board of NARTH, the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality, amid a gay escort scandal. NARTH vice president of operations David Pruden tells TPMmuckraker that Rekers first offered his resignation last Thursday, and officially resigned today. NARTH is a group that promotes the idea that homosexuality can, and should, be cured.
*
Pruden also denied a report in the Miami New Times that NARTH had been involved in helping Rekers respond to the media.
*
Rekers, who is also a co-founder of the Family Research Council and a member of groups that seek to protect children from homosexuality, was recently caught with a young male escort. Rekers maintains nothing sexual occurred, but the escort has told the press that he was hired to give Rekers erotic massages.
*
Rekers has also testified for the states of Arkansas and Florida in defense of their bans against gay couples adopting children. Florida paid Rekers $120,000 for his testimony, which the judge said was not credible.
*
My, my! Isn't it wonderful when lying hypocrites get exposed? NARTH ought to shut down. However, it is needed to support the anti-gay political agenda of the far right and I suspect that it can be lucrative ripping off the families of gays who will pay significant amounts of money based on promises that their child/loved one can be "cured" of homosexuality. Thus, I expect NARTH and its fraudulent activities will linger as an inflamed boil on society's posterior for some time yet.

He hasn't yet been expunged from NARTH's "scientific (sic.) advisory board," where he sits with Irving Bieber's widow Toby; I'm surprised that Paul Cameron isn't there, too.
