A new Quinnipiac University poll confirms what most of already knew: younger voters in Virginia are driving the surge in acceptance of same sex marriage, something that ought to be a wake up call to the Virginia GOP which remains an arm of The Family Foundation ("TFF"), a theocratic hate group in all but formal designation that seeks to subvert the U.S. Constitution. It goes without saying, that as the angry white religious extremist who make up the core of TFF's supporters die off, the Virginia GOP will find itself galloping over a cliff. Here are highlights from the poll's findings:
With strong support from women, Virginia voters favor 50 - 42 percent allowing same-
sex couple to get married in the Commonwealth. Support is 54 - 38 percent among women
while men are divided with 46 percent in favor and 48 percent opposed.
| |
Support for same-sex marriage is 69 - 22 percent among Democrats and 52 - 42 percent
among independent voters, with Republicans opposed 70 - 23 percent.
| |
Voters under 30 years old support it 69 - 25 percent, with support at 50 percent or higher among voters 30 to 64 years old. Voters over 65 are opposed 56 - 35 percent. |
Interestingly, we were at a wedding reception over the weekend at the James River Country Club where the boyfriend and I received many, many words of congratulation and good wishes on our wedding now less than three weeks away. A number of people said it was a shame that we had to go to Washington, D.C., to be able to get married.
