The Chimperator's Legacy

I have yet to decide if I am going to watch the Chimperator's last State of the Union speech tonight. Between making me want to retch over his disingenuous lies and finding it difficult to listen to his inability to speak normal English, it is all in all a painful experience. Of course the joke - on the Chimperator - is that he wants this speech to help his "legacy." It is way past time to worry about that!!! Six or more years ago would have been a better time to have such worries. In this regard, Daily Kos has a brief run down of some of the Bush 43 legacy that shows what a failure his presidency has been (http://www.dailykos.com/):

Bush "administration," for instance, we're all too well aware of the dark record, even if the traditional media have been less than dogged in its daily pursuit of the accumulated weight of Bush's departures from our traditional understandings of the constitutional order and that nebulous metric, "The American Way." **the emergence of the use of torture

**indefinite detention
**the denial of habeas corpus
**warrantless eavesdropping

**the staggering increase in the frequency of use of the "state secrets" privilege to block access to the courts
**the systematic suppression of scientific evidence regarding "administration" policies through the manipulation of administrative procedure

Parody of Obama's press statement

Daily Kos (http://www.dailykos.com/) has a great parody of Barack Obama's statement yesterday defending his continued plan to appear with Donnie McClurkin, who claims to have never made anti-gay statements. "I have clearly stated my belief that African-Americans are our brothers and sisters and should be provided the respect, dignity, and rights of all other citizens. I have consistently spoken directly to Caucasian religious leaders about the need to overcome the racism that persists in some parts of our community so that we can confront African-American issues and broaden the reach of equal rights in this country.

I strongly believe that Caucasians and the African-American community must stand together in the fight for equal rights. And so I strongly disagree with David Duke's views and will continue to fight for these rights as a progressive blogger to ensure that America is a country that spreads tolerance instead of division."

Nevertheless, David Duke is still on the schedule to sing at my Li'l Pumpkin Patch Halloween Party this weekend. I know it's insane. I know it's offensive to an entire class of Americans. But...have you ever heard him sing??? Angelic.

Oops, I forgot. Obama apparently likes double standards.
