There are times that I (i) wonder how Rick Santorum became so utterly batshit crazy, and (ii) give thanks that Santorum underscores the lunacy of today's Republican Party. The man truly needs a mental health care intervention - as do those in the GOP base who support the ideas of Santorum and the equally disturbed Mike Huckabee. Right Wing Watch reports on Santorum's latest craziness and his claim that the concept of the separation of church and state is a communist idea, not one advanced by the founding fathers, all of whom were leery of religion interfering with the government and civil laws. Here are some highlights:
In a conference call with members of right-wing pastor E.W. Jackson’s STAND America that was posted online today, former senator Rick Santorum disputed the existence of the separation of church and state in the U.S. Constitution, dismissing it as a Communist idea that has no place in America.A listener on the call told Santorum that “a number of the things that the far left, a.k.a. the Democrat [sic] Party, and the president is pushing for and accomplishing actually accomplishes a number of the tenets of ‘The Communist Manifesto,’ including the amnesty, the elevation of pornography, homosexuality, gay marriage, voter fraud, open borders, mass self-importation of illegal immigrants and things of that nature.”Of course, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, among others, referred to the separation of church and state when explaining the amendment which they drafted.
It is telling that Santorum was on a conference call with E.W. Jackson, failed GOP Lt. Governor candidate in Virginia in 2013, a man who truly belongs in a mental institution. It's also frightening that many listeners to this deranged harangue are so ignorant that they don't realize that Santorum is lying to them.

Some people are crazy but not stupid.
Some are stupid but not crazy.
Rick Santorum is both.
