I often complain about the laziness and spinelessness of the mainstream media when it comes to providing platforms for faux Christianist experts and Christianist talking heads without ever (1) challenging the lies that these individuals put out or (2) going after their false credentials and/or exposing their seamy pasts. The MSM simply refuses to do it either out of fear of being labeled "anti-Christian" - even though they'd really be anti-liar - or plain laziness. The Washington Post has taken this travesty to a new level and I can only assume that next we will be seeing op-eds by the Imperial Wizard of the Klux Klux Klan and Neo-Nazi leaders. Maybe even Osama Bin Laden. Why my renewed disgust? The Washington Post gratuitously published an op-ed by Tony Perkins - der Führer of the Family Research Council. That's right. The same Tony Perkins who has documented ties with David Duke of the Klan and who shamelessly regurgitates the discredited lies of Paul Cameron who was expelled from every legitimate psychological and counseling association over a quarter of a century ago. These easily confirmed facts apparently meant nothing to the folks at the Post who allowed Perkins to try to shift blame for the recent wave of gay teen suicides to advocates of LGBT rights rather than lying bastards and hate merchants like himself (here in Virginia, Victoria Cobb at The Family Foundation springs to mind). Here's a sampling of Perkins' vile bullshit:
*
The media has recently been filled with reports of several recent suicides by teenagers who are reported to have been victims of "anti-gay" bullying. Some homosexual activist groups lay blame at the feet of conservative Christians who teach that homosexual conduct is wrong, as well as pro-family groups such as Family Research Council which oppose elements of the homosexual political agenda, such as same-sex "marriage."
*
[H]omosexual activist groups like GLSEN (the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network) are exploiting these tragedies to push their agenda of demanding not only tolerance of homosexual individuals, but active affirmation of homosexual conduct and their efforts to redefine the family.
*
There is an abundance of evidence that homosexuals experience higher rates of mental health problems in general, including depression. However, there is no empirical evidence to link this with society's general disapproval of homosexual conduct.
*
Some homosexuals may recognize intuitively that their same-sex attractions are abnormal--yet they have been told by the homosexual movement, and their allies in the media and the educational establishment, that they are "born gay" and can never change. This--and not society's disapproval--may create a sense of despair that can lead to suicide.
*
The most important thing that Christians can offer to homosexuals is hope--hope that their sins, just like the sins of anyone else, can be forgiven and their lives transformed by the power of Jesus Christ.
*
Since homosexual conduct is associated with higher rates of sexual promiscuity, sexually transmitted diseases, mental illness, substance abuse, and domestic violence, it too qualifies as a behavior that is harmful to the people who engage in it and to society at large. It is not loving to encourage someone to indulge in such activities, no matter how much sensual pleasure they may derive from them.
*
Actually, the most important thing REAL Christians - and that certainly excludes Perkins - can do is TELL THE OBJECTIVE AND EMPIRICAL TRUTH, NOT RELIGIOUS BASED LIES. I suspect that Perkins has a specially reserved place in Hell - and candidly, I would find it difficult to shed a single tear if I were to hear of Perkins' death. The world would be a better place without him. As for the Washington Post, perhaps they need to sell the newspaper to the national Enquirer if they are going to stoop to giving Tony Perkins a platform with no disclaimers as to his lack of veracity and his racist and bigoted history.
