My blogger friend over at Magic Bellybutton has a great parody of the abstinance only education crowd. Rather that cut and paste her work, check it out on her blog site: http://mymagicbellybutton.blogspot.com/2007/09/abstinence-makes-lust-grow-stronger.html She and I are definitely of like minds when it comes to the Christianists and Chimperator Bush.

Just curious -- how do we approach this topic with our young children. I certainly don't want them to have hang ups about sex, but I don't want my six-year-old playing doctor (regardless of whether it's the same sex or not). Although the hard-line message as presented is definitely bigotted, the message shouldn't be experiment when you think you're ready even if you're only 7 years old. And, come on, let's face it, there are many people out there who are poised to pounce on children. The pokes at the other side are humorous, but let's really get serious about this. Althought there's normal curiosity in everyone, having sex is a very big step in a relationship. True the approach of "don't do it till your married" leaves same sex attracted people out in the waiting room forever. And, you know as well as we all do that there's a lot of sex going on before marriage. Sex is a healthy habit to get into as you well point out. But, how is it that we approach young people and help them be safe and responsible in this wonderful act?
