What Todd "Legitimate Rape" Akin Fortells of A Romney Administration

Despite the efforts of Mitt Romney and others in the GOP to disingenuously distance themselves from GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin's disgusting remark on "legitimate rape,"  Akin in fact represents the face of today's GOP.  Today's GOP is under the control of religious zealots and extremists who are pushing their equivalent of Sharia law.   Don't believe me?   Let's start with the proposed party platform on abortion.  Here are highlights from Raw Story:

The Republican Party is set to adopt an official platform that calls for “a human life amendment” to the Constitution that would not allow abortion even in cases of rape.

As Republicans were calling for Todd Akin to quit his senate bid after he told KTVI that women could not get pregnant from “legitimate” rape, CNN obtained draft language of the Republican platform that includes a constitutional abortion ban without any exceptions for rape, incest or life of the mother.

The draft contains a “salute” to state “informed consent” laws that force women to have an ultrasound before having an abortion. Support for “mandatory waiting periods prior to an abortion, and health-protective clinic regulation” is also included.

That ought to scare most rational women.  Especially if the remember that Paul Ryan was a co-sponsor on some of Akins extreme anti-abortion bills in Congress.  And for LGBT Americans, guess who is writing the platform language on marriage?  Hate group leader Tony Perkins of Family Research Council.  BuzzFeed has details.  Here are highlights:
Family Research Council president Tony Perkins told BuzzFeed: “You should read the entire plank on marriage, which I wrote. I feel very happy about it. I feel pretty optimistic about the outcome here.”
Calling out "an activist judiciary," the draft document blasts "court-ordered redefinition of marriage" before taking on the Obama administration.

"We oppose the Administration's open defiance of this principle [of separation of powers] — in its handling of immigration cases, in federal personnel benefits, in allowing a same-sex marriage at a military base, and in refusing to defend DOMA in the courts," the draft states.

Finally, after praising the benefits of marriage, the draft documents state, "[W]e believe that marriage, the union of one man and one woman must be upheld as the national standard, a goal to stand for, encourage, and promote through laws governing marriage."
It really doesn't get much more extreme than this, especially with someone as vile as Perkins being allowed to draft the language.  Antone who may try to delude themselves into believing that Romney would govern as a moderate is just plan insane.  Andrew Sullivan sums things up well:

[I]n Missouri, the polls haven't shifted much since the revelation of Akin's truly medieval views of women. Polarization is so sharp that a Republican, even a man with Islamist views on women, can break even with a female opponent. And Romney's blunt call for him to pull out is not endorsed by the Christianist base. In some ways, it's a harbinger of what would be happening throughout a Romney presidency: a struggle between the Republican leadership and the fundamentalist fanatics they need to win the presidency.
