Sodom & Gomorrah, USA Since the 1990s, the so-called gay-rights movement has targeted three of mainstream America’s most revered institutions: the military, of course, but also marriage and—amazingly—the Boy Scouts of America. This relentless campaign is aided and abetted by the Big News Media, especially with regard to the military.

The continued high incidence of HIV among gay men—compared to the rest of the American population—is a factor in this military controversy. It’s not “homophobia.” It’s the military’s grim reality of emergency blood transfusions from fellow soldiers, of carnage on battlefields. “Many GIs are fundamentally opposed to the idea [of openly gay troops] especially due to HIV/AIDS, which takes time to appear in lab tests but can infect you upon contact,” a retired non-commissioned officer (NCO) in Army Special Forces remarked.

The military’s ongoing prohibition against troops’ openly gay conduct, however, is entirely different. It is appropriate and necessary. The problem is obnoxious behavior that other troops should not have to tolerate on duty or off duty. Moreover, the gay-rights argument that the U.S. military should not discriminate is laughable. . . . there’s also good discrimination that prevents the recruitment—and waste of the military’s time and taxpayers’ money—of young Americans who are physically, mentally, psychologically, and/or behaviorally unfit.

Personally, I find the op-ed author, Merrill R. Darby, obnoxious. Does that, therefore, utilizing his logic mean that I get to eliminate some of his rights as a citizen?

One has to wonder if this Merrill Darby dude had written about hanging blacks or extermination camps, if WOAI and MSNBC had promoted the commentary as the "free expression of viewpoints."
And just in case, fuck anyone who invokes Godwin.
