Marco Rubio Panders to Anti-Gay Hate Group

In an apparent attempt to get back into to good standing with the Christofascist/Tea Party base of the Republican Party after losing favor for supporting immigration reform, Florida Senator Marco Rubio pandered to the virulently anti-gay Florida Family Policy Council.  It's a disgusting example of how today's GOP elected officials are little better than prostitutes - except less honest - in their willingness to pander to the nastiest elements of the GOP base for perceived self-advantage.  One has to wonder if Rubio's next act will be to address a Neo-Nazi organization.  Gay Star News looks at Rubio's shameless behavior.  Here are highlights:

[Marco Rubio] told an anti-gay rights group on Saturday (16 November) that 'moral' issues should form a part of US government debate.

US Sen Marco Rubi, known for his homophobic views, was invited to speak at a fundraising dinner for the Florida Family Policy Council.

Speaking at the event, Rubio said: The debate we should be having isn't whether or not we have a right to talk about values and morals in the public square; the debate we should be having instead is which values and morals should focus on.

'The American Dream cannot be saved unless our people have the values they need for success. They cannot be taught by government, and they will not be taught by the tornado of entertainment content and media messaging swirling around our children every day.'

Videos shown during the event showed John Stemberger, the president of theFFPC, speaking out against gay scout masters and transgender teachers

Rubio's appearance at the fundraiser comes a week after he voted against a bill to outlaw workplace discrimination against LGBTI people.

The Florida senator, who is hoping to run for President in 2016, has previously said of homosexuality being a sin: 'I can tell you what faith teaches, and faith teaches that it is. And that's what the Bible teaches.'

In June, he threatened to abandon his own immigration reform bill if it 'has something in it that gives gay couples immigration rights and so forth. It kills the bill... It shouldn't happen.'
Under Rubio's moral vision, it is fine to demonize gays and also vote to deny health care coverage to the poor and slash funding for social safety net programs that assist the poor, the hungry and the homeless.  WWJD?
