This is a good catch by the folks at Pam's House Blend and I hope readers will take the time to send in e-mails in support of the proposed regulatory change so that the input received by VDSS is not limited to that of Bible beating haters. God forbid that the haters win on this issue. Salon has more reactions of the Christofascist set who continue to demand that the nation's laws and the rest of society be forced to conform to their fear and hate based version of religion. Not surprisingly, political whore Maggie Gallagher is near having the vapors. Here's what Liberty Counsel is reporting:B. The licensee shall prohibit acts of discrimination based on race, color, gender, national origin, age, religion, political beliefs, sexual orientation, disability, or family status to:
1. Delay or deny a child’s placement; or
2. Deny an individual the opportunity to apply to become a foster or adoptive parent.
VDSS is taking comments on this proposed regulation. You must post your comments TODAY and let them know that private agencies should not be required to place children with same-sex couples! Comment period ends today (Friday, April 1st ).
To contact VDSS, click on the hyperlink above or, as the article notes on Pam's blog, as per the Regulations Register (PDF), the agency contact for this proposal is Joni S. Baldwin. Her email: joni.baldwin@dss.virginia.gov. Children deserve stable, loving homes and LGBT individuals can certainly provide this resource - often far better than heterosexual couples that have unwanted children and who are irresponsible or abusive.
