McAuliffe Leads Cuccinelli by 9 Points; Virginians Blame GOP for Shutdown

The Tea Party seems hell bent to scuttle one of their own darlings with the continued government shut down - Ken Cuccinelli is now 9 points behind Terry McAuliffe according to a new Politico poll.  Virginia is being very hard hit by the government shutdown and Virginians rightly are blaming the Republican Party for the shutdown.  Hopefully, they are also connecting the dots and figuring out that while Cuccinelli is bemoaning the shut down in some statements, its his own backers who are responsible for the effort to subvert constitutional government and threaten both America's and the world's economy.  Here are some highlights from the poll findings:

Q1 The candidates for Governor are Republican
Ken Cuccinelli, Democrat Terry McAuliffe, and
Libertarian Robert Sarvis. If the election was
today, who would you vote for?

Ken Cuccinelli ................................................ 35%
Terry McAuliffe................................................ 44%
Robert Sarvis .................................................. 12%
Undecided....................................................... 8%

Q2 If you had to choose between Republican Ken
Cuccinelli and Democrat Terry McAuliffe, who
would you vote for?

Ken Cuccinelli ................................................ 42%
Terry McAuliffe................................................ 52%
Not sure .......................................................... 5%

Q3 Do you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion
of Ken Cuccinelli?

Favorable........................................................ 34%
Unfavorable .................................................... 56%
Not sure .......................................................... 11%

Q4 Do you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion
of Terry McAuliffe?

Favorable........................................................ 39%
Unfavorable .................................................... 49%
Not sure .......................................................... 12%

Q8 Do you support or oppose the federal
government shutting down over funding for the
Affordable Care Act, also known as
Obamacare?

Support ........................................................... 31%
Oppose ........................................................... 62%
Not sure .......................................................... 7%

Q9 Who do you blame most for the ongoing
shutdown of the federal government:
Republicans in Congress, President Obama
and Senate Democrats, or both equally?

Republicans in Congress ................................ 50%
President Obama and Senate Democrats ...... 35%
Both equally .................................................... 15%
Not sure .......................................................... 1%
Blue Virginia sums up the situation this way:

The bottom line is that Ken Cuccinelli is in deep trouble with just 4 weeks to go until Election Day 2013. Oh, and in other news, Virginians (correctly) blame Republicans for the shutdown, they do NOT like Ted Cruz (Virginians are smart), and plurality SUPPORTS the proposed EPA regulations on new coal-fired power plants (not that there were going to be any new coal-fired power plants built in the U.S. anyway, due to competition from cheap natural gas, wind power, energy efficiency, etc.). On all counts, Cuccinelli comes out the loser. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
I hope the dislike of Cuccinelli and the GOP in general trickles down and boosts the other Democrat candidates as well!
