Rick Perry Signs NOM's Anti-Gay Marriage Pledge

The number of reasons to view Rick Perry as a nightmare candidate if one is (1) one is an LGBT American and/or (2) believe in the Gospel message of Christ. On the LGBT front, Perry has signed on to NOM's anti-gay pledge causing Maggie Gallagher no doubt to wet herself (when, of course, she's not laughing all the way to the bank as she makes a fortune peddling hatred and intolerance). I don't know about readers of this blog, but I am personally OVER having my life and my life partner relationship made a political football for sleaze bags like Rick Perry and tawdry whore equivalents like Maggie Gallagher and her male prostitute equivalent Brian Brown. The Washington Blade has coverage on Perry's nasty wet kiss to Maggie's extremely broad ass and his political fellatio to Brian Brown. It's enough to make one want to vomit. Here are highlights:

e newest entry in the field of Republican presidential hopefuls — and current front-runner in the GOP field — has signed his name to an anti-gay pledge to oppose same-sex marriage if elected to the White House.

On Friday, the National Organization for Marriage announced Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who earlier this month officially declared his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, had penned his name to a document committing himself to various initiatives in opposition to same-sex marriage.

In a statement, Brian Brown, NOM’s president, praised Perry and called the thrice-elected Texas governor a “marriage champion” for signing the pledge.

“By doing so, Perry makes crystal clear that, contrary to the conventional wisdom, gay marriage is going to be a bigger issue in 2012 than it was in 2008, because the difference between the GOP nominee and President Obama is going to be large and clear,” Brown said. “We look forward to demonstrating that being for marriage is a winning position for a presidential candidate.”

By signing the document, Perry commits upon election as president to undertake several initiatives against same-sex marriage:

* supporting congressional passage and sending to the states a U.S. constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex marriage throughout the country;

* defending in court the Defense of Marriage of Act, a 1996 law that prohibit federal recognition of same-sex marriage;

* appointing judges and a U.S. attorney general who “will respect the original meaning” of the U.S. Constitution;

* supporting legislation allowing D.C. residents to vote on whether or not to abrogate the district’s same-sex marriage law;

* and appointing a presidential commission to “investigate harassment of traditional marriage supporters.”
In some ways, I am pleased that Perry has shown himself to be a bigoted political whore to the Christianists - a group that regularly polls as extremely unpopular with the majority of Americans. With each step like this pandering to NOM, Perry makes it easier to make the case that he is WAY OUTSIDE the political mainstream. His Christianist self-masturbation love fest last month in Houston just adds to the evidence. Given the persistent rumors that Perry is a closet case, I hope and pray that some past trick will come forward and add Perry to the list of failed GOP hypocrites.

Do you think that President Obama is going to have to take a stand on this issue before this is over? I mean pick one side or the other? I forsee many people making their decision for President on this one issue.

Michael, I'm a Texan and a Republican so there is not much you and I see eye to eye on politically. That said, we do agree on our assessment of Gov. Rick Perry. As a Texas Republican, I have yet to vote for Mr. Perry. He's a conceited self aggrandizing ass. Rick Perry doesn't given a damn for anyone or anything other than Rick Perry. Rick Perry is IS a religious man. He is NOT a Godly man. Rick Perry uses his "religion" as a tool and that is all it is to him. I love Texas and it pains me that Texas gets such a bad rap so often in the national spotlight. But I guarantee you Rick Perry has nothing good to contribute to the people of the United States as their President. And it's Texans such as him who become national figures who help to perpetuate false perceptions of Texas and Texans in the views of many Americans. Politics is a strange business. I hope someone in the press corps will do enough digging to find that Rick Perry was far from having the support of the majority of Texans in his last election.

Jack,

I lived in Texas back in the early 1980's - in fact, my oldest daughter was born in Houston - and it's a great state. Except for some Texans like Chimperator Bush and Rick Perry.

I totally agree with you that Perry would bring nothing positive to the USA should he reach high national office.
