Wingnuts Foaming at the Mouth Over Kagan Nomination

I still have not decided what I think of Obama U.S. Supreme Court nominee Elana Kagan, but it's interesting to note that the far right Christianists have already decided that she's a lesbian and, therefore, by definition unfit for a seat on the Supreme Court. So, is she a lesbian? Frankly, I have no idea. But the wingnuts have already cast their votes against her - probably hastened by the fact that she's Jewish. Some Christianists like those at Focus on the Family do not cite her feared sexual orientation directly. Others like the ever delusional AFA and Peter LaBarbera's latest scam scheme organization are less discrete about their never ending anti-gay obsession. Right Wing Watch describes AFA's reaction as follows:
*
The American Family Association's Bryan Fischer has already made it abundantly clear that he believes that all gays are inherently unqualified to serve on the Supreme Court on the grounds that they are sexually deviant felons and pedophiles who are inherently incapable of objectivity.
*
So it is no surprise that he has reacted quickly to the news that President Obama will nominate Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court with a demand to know whether or not she is a lesbian and calling on other Religious Right activists to mobilize to oppose her nomination because this nation cannot afford to have "sexually abnormal individuals in a position of important civic responsibility":
*
Elena Kagan, if nominated today, will be forced to face the press. She cannot be kept closeted not only from the public but from the inquiring minds of the media. They have a solemn responsibility to do one thing: ask her directly and openly and in front of the American people: Are you a lesbian?
*
A refusal to answer is a tacit admission of guilt.
But she may not be able publicly to deny she's a lesbian, likely because it's true. She may not be able to admit it either, because it could cost her a Supreme Court post. So she's likely to refuse to answer the question at all, and the only plausible explanation for her evasion would be because rumors of her lesbianism aren't rumors at all but based in fact.
*
Porno Pete - aficonado of "under cover research" at gay leather events- is likewise over the top in his condemnation of Kagan who he assumes is a lesbian as well. Funny how Porno Pete hasn't had too much to say about George Rekers. Here's some of LaBarbera's venom:
*
“If Kagan is practicing immoral sexual behavior, it reflects on her character as a judicial nominee and her personal bias as potentially one of the most important public officials in America. The popular mantra — even among conservatives — is that Kagan’s sexuality is ‘irrelevant.’ But a Justice Kagan would help decide some critically important constitutional issues dealing with: homosexual ‘marriage’ as a supposed civil right; religious liberty and freedom of conscience; and the First Amendment as applied to citizens’ right to oppose homosexuality.
*
Kagan has a strong pro-homosexual record, including, as Harvard dean, fighting to keep military recruiters off the campus because the military bars homosexuals. Americans certainly have a right to know if her activism is driven by deeply personal motivations that could undermine her fairness as a judge.”
*
Homosexuals’ privacy interests simply do not outweigh the public’s right to know about potential conflicts-of-interest in the lives of their judges and lawmakers.”
