Lutheran Human Warmth and Care Fund

As I have mentioned before, I sublet a portion of my office space to the ELCA Lutheran Bishop of Virginia for the bishop's eastern office. The office staff includes the director of the The Lutheran Council of Tidewater (The LCT) which operates the Human Warmth and Care Fund in Southeastern Virginia. All contributions to the Human Warmth and Care Fund go directly toward helping those in need pay utility bills; there is NO administrative fee.

This year, with the depressed economy, there is increased demand for assistance and less money available to make the small family by family donations that can keep heat/power from being cut off during these coldest months. I can personally attest that unpaid volunteers man the phones and deal with utility companies to prevent power/heat from being turned off at the homes of the less fortunate. Volunteers also act as a clearing house for directing the needy to other potential resources.

Call LCT for particulars - the office number is 757-623-0155. Or go to the LCT website and donate online or learn about other volunteer opportunities.
