Christians Against Proposition 8

I posted a few days ago about the need for members of the LGBT community to remember that not all Christians and Christian denominations are our enemies. Some are, if fact, fighting for gay marriage at our sides. Yes, it is often difficult to remember this reality in the face of the hate and intolerance disseminated by Christianist extremists and their Mormon allies who value religious freedom only for themselves and try to stomp on the civil rights of others. In my post, I mentioned that the Santa Clara County Council of Churches had placed a full page ad in the San Jose Mercury NEWS. I extend my thanks to these churches. Any LGBT citizen in that area of California looking for a church home might begin their search at one of these churches. Here is the text of the ad which urged voters to vote "NO" on Proposition 8:
*
As people of faith,
We believe all people are made in the image of God.
We believe in loving, faithful and committed relationships.
We affirm everyone's right to the freedom to marry.
e urge you to...VOTE NO ON PROPOSITION 8!
*
Don't eliminate marriage for anyone.
*
Following Jesus' call for justice and compassion, this ad is sponsored by the Council of Churches of Santa Clara County Committee Against Proposition 8 and 23 congregations:

I'm so glad to hear this. I was curiouse as to if I could dig anything up on this topic, being that I overheard a Christian the other day saying regardless of his religious beleifs, he had to uphold the law and do what is right first. I'm glad that those churches are against it. I hope this article reaches many others :D

I am choir director/organist at Almaden Hills United Methodist Church, for 15 years. I am so proud of this church's courageous stand, and have been nurtured by these kind and accepting people, who demonstrate love, even when it may be unpopular with the right wing Christians of other churches. As an out gay man, formerly married with three wonderful children, my partner and I married this week, in a private civil ceremony here in California. We hope that this right does not evaporate with the upcoming vote on Prop 8. NOBODY at this church is aware of this news, as I write these words! I can hardly wait for the Sunday announcement time!
